Week in Review

This tiger is a girl, Bethany says...because of her eyebrows...

Fun stuff in our lives this week:

*We saw and were able to pet a real dead tiger! My mom works in the office for a company that takes care of the burial and/or cremation of animals, especially large animals like horses.
*Impromptu dinner with a friend-no kids or husbands (although the latter would have been fun to have along!).
*Contributing to a surprise 90th birthday gift for my grandma. The family is compiling stories and pictures for her to read when she's alone or during the night when she can't sleep. It's been precious to think back on all the memories she's blessed us with.
*Unusually warm weather for several days-this kind of messes with my head, but it was nice to get out with the girls and go to the park.
*Planning Ashlyn's 12th birthday...how bittersweet for mom & dad!

Audrey found her thumb! She usually has all her fingers in her mouth!

I'm a little proud of myself for pulling off an afternoon out of town with the girls. Yes, that's 5 against 1! We had to pick up Shane's new glasses and decided to add a stop at the library, a couple of thrift stores, Mardel & Hobby Lobby. We're pretty familiar with the area, but usually backtrack a few times to get around. With all the kids in tow, I managed to not scream once and we scooted easily from one stop to the next like we were natives!

Food for thought-I saw a billboard next to the adult video store in the next county over. The billboard was a strong message from the area churches taking a stand against this kind of business. At first I thought, "Way to go!" but then I thought twice. Is being confrontational the best way to be Jesus to those caught in this type of addiction?

*Sorry, I had to edit this because I wasn't quite finished with it when it posted-it was supposed to be a scheduled post for later this weekend-oops!

Glad you had a great week! As far as the sign goes sometimes people need confrontation and an instant awareness of what their doing. I am not sure what it says, but you never know...a man about to go in may see the sign and turn around and leave...I have heard of an instant in Pilot Point where I think the sign says "Real men don't use porn" and it has hurt the porn places business.

I agree, it could be a help for sure, that's why my initial reaction was positive. I'm so glad the churches of that town are taking a stand. I hope it hurts business at DW's.

It says something like, "Pornagraphy victimizes women, hurts marriages and destroys families. We do not want businesses like this in our town!"
Signed, area churches

Maybe it say something like:
Porn hurts families. If it's hurting you, please call First United Bapticostal Church for help.

I have no answers, just thinking out loud...

First United Bapticostal Church??? That is FUNNY!!!

I like the sign, but I think the flip side of that sign actually is an advertisement for that store! Go figure!

Wish I could have gone shopping with ya! OH...that sale in the other town is this coming weekend. The kids consignment sale. In the town you just had the GALA in. *wink

Well, I'm PresbyMethodBaptiCostal so . . . LOL

I think that confrontation is something that Jesus would do, if he was mad enough. Let's not forget the money changers in the temple . . . if that wasn't confrontational, I don't know what is.

Aud is so cute!!

Stanton sent a pic of the Tiger to Ronnie - at first Ronnie couldn't figure out why S. would send him a pic of a dead tiger. I like Bethy's response though. Of course you can tell the gender of a tiger through it's eyebrows! ;-)

Yes, I believe Jesus would be confrontational if he wanted to and it'd be perfectly okay.

What I guess I'm getting at is that different audiences might need different responses but a billboard only gives room for one massive response. Sure, tell the business owners their business isn't wanted in some way (by showing up at city council meetings) but also open up an outlet for those wanting out of the addiction could get help.

Good discussion :) And, for the record, I am still very glad for the sign and that some action is being taken against those smutty businesses.
